Yes, it's official! (well, to me anyways :0 ) There is a emote contest! (wow, this is starting out lame, bear with me)

Ehem....

Ok, so anyone who voted in the recent journal poll knows there's a contest. The topic is has been decided by the voters. (if you didn't vote, not my problem.)

Your mission is to create an emoticon covering the topic of stereotypes. A stereotype can be anything label-ish that describes a person. Your first thought is probably high school stereotypes, goth, punk, prep, nerd, etc. but it goes futher than that. You can make the emote have a profession, (like scientist, farmer, construction worker) show a religion, (christian, buddist, jewish, wiccan) or anything else you can think of that'd be a label.


If you're interested so far, you probably want to know what the prizes are.



Now for the part to pay attention to....



Starts Entries can be entered starting now, offcially begins tomorrow, June 1st, since it's the begining of the month (makes things easier)
there will be one week in June (the 18th to the 25th) in which I'll be gone, but entries will still be accepted. However, I advise you try getting them in the first two weeks, so there's time for you to edit and improve your works.

Ends The contest ends the 30th of June, so you have one month to complete your emotes. No emotes will be accepted after 12:00am eastern time.

How to Enter Once you've made an entry, enter it as a deviation. It must be on deviantart, on display (not storage) so I can put the thumb in my journal for all to see. Title the deviation "DM36 Contest: (nameofemotehere)" After you enter it on deviantart, send me a link via note, and I'll put it in this journal as soon as possible.

Limits You can enter no more than 3 emotes (that is, deviations. If there's two emotes in the animation it only counts as one). They must be less than 100x100px, and that's extreme. Most should be somewhere between 15x15 and 40x40. Emotes do not have to be animated, but it will help you very much if they are. If you lack an animation program, you can download a 15 day trial of Ulead GIF Animator 5.

Edit: Emotes should be made after the contest begins! I'm sorry to have forgotten this earlier, but emotes made before the contest began can't be entered...it's only fair if there's one in your gallery you really want entered you can heavily edit it and re-enter as a new deviation. There must be signs of heavy editing though!

Please do not enter emotes that depict tv, book, anime, or manga characters. (or any other specific person or character) I do not know who the main character of yu-gi-oh and your vampire books are, so making an emote look like them isn't going to get you far. You can make a emote look like a vampire, you can make it egyptian. Please don't make it look like specific people or things though.

IMPORTANT!
NO RACISM, BIGOTRY, OR EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE MATERIALS TOWARDS A RACE, SEX, SEXUAL PREFERENCE OR RELIGION.
Yes, you can have emotes of religions. No, you cannot have them randomly getting shot, killed, crucified or anything else offensive. I will allow humor of course, but if you cross to the line you'll be automatically disqualified.
The same goes for sex, race, etc. I ask that all emotes be rainbow colors, none should be human skin tones. I will also allow the homosexual stereotype, but as soon as I judge it offensive (I'll mention that I'm far stricter than devart, btw) you're disqualified.

It isn't hard to follow, it's common sense.


The emotes themselves (the bases) should be 15x15, and the outlines should be exactly like this: (go ahead and copy/paste this one if you wish. But you don't have to leave it black, of course.) You may have more than one emote in an animation (like ) but please have no more than 3 or so unless there's a specific purpose for it. The emotes should show some sign of being shaded.

Specific Tips:
I'm looking first and formost for nice shading and well..something that won't make my eyes bleed. But after that, creativity is the way to go. Bonus point for animation, get that program if you don't have it folks! Animate to the best of your abilities, but if you've never gif animated before don't try doing anything too dramatic. If you want you can enter a static emote, and practice the whole month until you're good, then update it .

most of my emotes are not on the official list, thus they cannot be used on the site (other than thumbs) so putting :catfight: as a comment with a is extremely pointless and annoying.
Yes, I will take requests for emotes, but I won't always use your ideas
